Exploring the waters of New England, fishing for Bluefin Tuna, Striped Bass, Cod, Haddock, Fluke, Flounder and other North Atlantic species. Recreational Lobstering & general boating and recreation in Massachusetts Bay and Beyond.
This site is dedicated to boating, fishing and general recreation in the Massachusetts Bay area and Atlantic Ocean. My vessel, a 2002 Trophy 2302WA powered by a 200hp Mercury EFI outboard, is well equip for most outings. She resides in Green Harbor, MA as does my family and home. We make full use of our location during the summer visiting sand bars and beaches up and down the coast, places you could never get to without a boat. Fishing Stellwagen Bank for Bluefin Tuna, and hauling lobster traps has become somewhat of an obsession.
This season we will be fishing for a variety of New England Marine Species, including Atlantic Cod, Haddock, Red Fish, Pollack, Striped Bass, Flounder, Fluke, Bluefin Tuna, Mako Shark, Porbeagle Shark, and Blue Shark.
It’s been a slow start to the 2014 season here in the northeast. The water temperatures stayed in low 50’s in and around Cape Cod Bay for nearly all of May. The lower water temps slowed down the arrival of the food chain but that all seems to be changing fast now. Schools of mackerel and herring are pretty easy to find just about anywhere inshore and I’ve been told squid are also making their way through our waters. Striped bass both large and small are following the bait and if you are lucky enough to be in the right place and the right time you can have some reel fun catching them.
This past Saturday 5.25.2014 we filled the livewell with mackerel at sunrise and landed some beautiful striped bass a few hours later around the high tide. We caught stripers of all sizes with the smallest being around 8” and the largest was 39”. I’m happy to report all of the fish were very healthy looking specimens. We kept 4 fish (our limit) but in all, I think we caught (and released) over a dozen fish in a 2 hour window. Not bad for the season opener!
Bluefin Tuna Fishing
This 50" Bluefin was caught on a Shimano TLD50 II LRSA off the coast of Cape Cod MA. While we were hoping for a bigger fish we were plenty happy to have some sashimi. The fish was caught on the troll. From hookup to gaff this was a short battle that only lasted 8 minutes.
This is one of those fishing trips I will never forget. The southwest wind and afternoon tide line up perfectly. With a bait cage full of live mackerel ready to go dockside we have high expectations. We never expected to hook a...
October Striped Bass Fishing Report
Green Harbor MA
You have to pay close attention to the marine forecast and choose your days on the water carefully this time of year. If you are lucky enough to have the forecast on your side you should not have to go far to catch some really nice fish. A 39” Striped Bass followed by afew bluefishand then another 37” Striped Bass were laned on this outing all within a mile or two form shore.
September is usually a very good month for fishing in the northeast. The colder water brings new inshore fishing opportunities, specifically local Cod.
Is there a more perfect way to end the Discovery Channel's shark week than going shark fishing? I don't think so..

Bluefin Tuna Fishing
Stellwagen Bank
Yesterday was truly an awesome day on the water. This adventure actually starts the day before when a sudden change of plans sets the wheels of fate into motion. It all starts Tuesday afternoon with a late cancellation, setting up a day of solo tuna fishing. I resigned to the fact that I’d be alone...read the whole story
Striper fishing in June is always a lot of fun. There are plenty of large fish around now. On some days out in front of Green Harbor the water is thick with tinker mackerel and in just a few minutes you can land enough bait for the entire day. This is exactly how this trip begins.
A last minute trip planned around an opening in the weather is about to get underway. The day begins at Taylor Marine 6:15am, we prepare the gear for the trip. You take what you can get this time of year so we are preparing for all scenarios. Spinning reels to target any surface action we run into, trolling reels for dragging around plastics, and electric reels for bottom fishing if all else fails. With everything ready to go we leave the dock at 6:30am before the sun has broken the horizon.

April 25, 2010 the catch of the day was this large toothy Wolf fish.
Bluefin Tuna Fishing Stellwagen Bank in August 2008. We got the last 6 minutes of the battle on tape. The total fight was about 30 minutes. Check it out.
The ocean is an incredible place. It is hard to explain what it is like to see a school of pilot whales pass by or a breaching Humpback Whale dwarf your boat when you least expect it. Basking Sharks, Humpback Whales, Finback Whales, Pilot Whales, Right Whales, Harbor Seals, Atlantic Sunfish, and an endless variety of other sea creatures can be found regularly. Bluefin Tuna schools that pass through every season.
Check out The Captain's Blog - Green Harbor MA, it catalogs much of my vessels activity. You will find some useful fishing and boating tips, lobster facts, recreational lobstering information and lobster recipes, as well as a few interesting photos here. The site is always growing. The goal is to create an extensive fishing resource that will include fishing tackle tips and methods, fishing areas, useful marine knots, and lots more as well as links to many other useful fishing and fisherman resources.
