This season has been very slow to start for the recreational Bluefin Tuna crowd, myself included. There really wasn’t much of a bite around on Stellwagen Bank in June like previous years. The fish seemed to have stayed pretty far south through June and most of July in the Chatham area. Finally they appear to be moving north onto the bank and fish are being caught on the troll, with live bait and jigging. We managed to troll up this little 50” schoolie Bluefin trolling a black spreader bar with a lipstick stinger off the southern edge of the bank on July 28th, 2012. The fight was a little anticlimactic, the 50” fish was overpowered by the Shimano TLD50 II LRSA reel, and the battle was over in under 8 minutes.
Some of the action was captured on a GoPro Hero Camera.
