While drifting or trolling, make sure you take the time to enter each strike or hookup as an event on the plotter screen. This way over a the course of a day (or a season) you’ll have a good view of where you’re doing well, and you will see patterns often emerge. Like and good treasure map, you’ll see that “X marks the spot” where the fish have been striking. Focusing your efforts in these areas will increase your results. I’ve seen this technique work on everything from Bluefin Tuna in Offshore in New England to halibut on the flats to albacore on the offshore banks.
