Mackerel, mackerel and more mackerel!
The waters in and around the Massachusetts Bay are full of mackerel. Jigging for cod you’ll catch mackerel. Trolling for bass you’ll catch mackerel. It would be hard not to catch a few mackerel no matter what you’re fishing for. I caught more mackerel than I could count. I filled the bait box and re-baited all the traps (I need a bigger fridge). There was a lot of cod around today too but they were all shorties. I would have probably had better luck fishing for cod in deeper water but I didn’t want to leave my mackerel school.
While I was out there I live lined a few mackerel and had one nice run but no luck bringing it to the boat.
The lobster traps were good to me again today. I had one 3.5 lbs and three other 1.5 lbs.
I’ll check them again Monday.
