Deep Water Jigging
To find a keeper cod in and around the south coast you need to find deep water. The size limit jumped from 22 inches up to 24 inches. If you choose to jig for cod in anything less than 100 feet you can expect to land a bunch of shorties. Deep water jigging is difficult if the current is strong and in those conditions you will need a lot more weight. Northeast of Green Harbor just short of the H buoy there is a wreck in 120 feet of water. We set up shop so we would float directly along side the structure and on each pass we landed a cod. A few shorties were in the mix but overall deep water jigging for cod has been produced each trip. I saved a waypoint to my new favorite cod fishing location. You can bet I’ll be stopping by often.
