This is not an example of what I would call a bluefish rig but it does illustrate the problem you will have if you use a soft bait. One minute we were in a large school of bass and the next minute bluefish. One near miss and this swim shad wasn’t swimming any more.
Bluefish will demolish your tackle box if you don’t use the right tackle. I recommend an 18" 30 lb. steel leader whether you are trolling or casting. After the leader you can use anything from a classic cast master to deep diver. I catch bluefish on a wide variety of tackle. Let face it there are not shy fish, they will strike at just about anything you throw at them. Pick something that can take a beating so your whole tackle box doesn’t resemble the carnage above. Tight lines.
