Dredging of Green Harbor, Marshfield, MA

This is good news but it’s going to be difficult getting in and out of the harbor while the dredging is going on. The project is long overdue. The next phase will be to dredge the inner harbor which if believe is scheduled to start this coming winter.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District is soliciting prospective contractors for Maintenance Dredging of Green Harbor, Marshfield, MA. The proposed work involves maintenance dredging to remove about 20,000 cubic yards of material fr om the authorized 6 feet and 8 feet deep, 100 feet wide, entrance channel portion of the Federal navigation project. The work will be performed by a mechanical dredge. It is likely that a backhoe, or heavy duty digging bucket will be necessary, as the ma terial to be dredged consists of densely-packed cobbles and sand. Disposal of the dredged material will be in about 12 feet of water at the designated near-shore disposal site located approximately 1 mile south of the entrance channel and off of Green Harbor Beach. Due to environmental restrictions dredging operations at the project site will only be permitted from April 16th through May 31st 2007. All dredging work must be completed within one dredging season.
